Fall is my favorite time of year to kick off my skincare routine. I've been microneedling consistently this past year with the Dr Pen products, and have witnessed significant results. Today, marks the first day of Fall 2019, so I decided it was a good day to share my love for microneedling and my results this past year.
If you are unfamiliar with microneedling here are some quick points to catch you up.
Microneedling is performed mechanically with either a roller or a pen. These devices have needles on or in them that puncture the skin, causing controlled trauma which then induces collagen. This is known as Collagen Induction Therapy. Collagen keeps our skin looking young and tight, as we age we lose collagen, so basically the goal with microneedling is to get collagen to boost, causing your skin to look plumper, tighter, even helping to improve scars by remodeling the skin.
ROLLER OR PEN?
Microneedling can be performed with a roller that has little sharp needle pins all over or with a Pen, like the ones I use. I prefer the pen to the roller based on a few reasons. First, the pen can be set to different depths and speeds, whereas a roller's depth is based on the roller you purchase, .25mm, .5mm, .75mm, 1mm and so on. The rollers speed is controlled by how fast you decide to roll it. I prefer the control and precision that a pen gives me with its dial. Second, the roller needs to be effectively cleaned and disinfected, and this aspect has always concerned me from a skin infection standpoint. Whereas, the pen uses disposable cartridges, which means every time you needle you are using a sterile sealed cartridge and then afterwards you discard this cartridge.
BENEFITS OF MICRONEEDLING?
As mentioned previously mirconeedling can be effective at boosting collagen and helping with overall skin texture. Besides causing the controlled micro channels into the epidermis and dermis, depending on how deep you are needling, theses channels also allow you access to getting products deep into the skin. We have what is a called a "Skin Barrier" this protects us and is necessary to our survival, however it also makes it very difficult for all of those expensive serums, peptides and essences to also penetrate and be effective. Thus these channels allow our products to be more effective because they can actually get into the skin.
I actually got my first Dr Pen in 2013. I purchased the A1, which was their first generation and used it here and there but was not regimented. In the Fall of 2018 I decided to start recording my at home skincare journey on Youtube, and decided to be regimented about microneedling my skin every month. This has kept me accountable and has drastically improved my skin, and because I documented this experience I have results to share.
I have a bunch of microneedling videos linked below for you to see this past year. I also consolidated the experience with a video showing the comparison of my skin texture over time.

I'm experiencing the benefits of microneedling and witnessing as my skin improves month to month. The consistency has made the biggest impact and I am excited to see what 2 years looks like next fall.
