If you’ve ever looked in the mirror and thought, “My face still looks great, but my neck is starting to show my age,” you’re definitely not alone.
The neck is one of the first areas to reveal aging because the skin is naturally thinner than the face and is constantly moving throughout the day. Every time we look down, turn our head, or even sleep, the skin folds and creases. As collagen production slows over time, those folds become more noticeable and can eventually turn into permanent lines and crepey skin.
One of my favorite ways to support healthier-looking neck skin is through microneedling.
In this week’s treatment, I microneedled my neck live using the Dr. Pen M9, an 18-pin cartridge, and one syringe of Hyaron. I also included a complete 24-hour update so you can see exactly how quickly my skin recovered.
If you’re curious about adding neck microneedling to your skincare routine, here’s exactly what I did.
Why I Microneedle My Neck
Most of us spend years investing in skincare for our face but forget that the neck often ages even faster.
The skin on the neck:
- Produces less collagen over time
- Is naturally thinner than facial skin
- Is constantly bending and stretching
- Often develops horizontal neck lines and crepey texture
Microneedling creates controlled microchannels in the skin that trigger your body’s natural wound-healing response. During that healing process, your skin produces new collagen and elastin, which can gradually improve skin firmness, texture, and overall quality.
For me, neck microneedling is less about chasing perfection and more about maintaining healthy skin as I age.

The Products I Used
For this treatment, I kept my routine very simple.

Device
- Dr. Pen M9
Cartridge
- 18-Pin Cartridge
Slip
- One syringe of Hyaron
Settings
- Needle depth: 1.0 mm
- Speed: Level 1
I’ve used several Dr. Pen devices over the years, and one of the first things I noticed about the M9 is how powerful it feels. Even at a depth of just 1.0 mm on the neck, I felt like it provided excellent penetration.
One feature I particularly like is the cartridge locking system. The pen won’t activate until the cartridge is fully seated and electronically connected. That’s a thoughtful improvement over some previous models, where cartridges occasionally loosened during treatment.
My Microneedling Technique
I divided my neck into sections and worked methodically across each area.
Rather than simply making straight passes, I use small squiggly motions to evenly cover the treatment area. Once I’ve covered a section, I spend extra time making additional passes directly over the horizontal neck lines that concern me most.
Throughout the treatment, I continuously applied Hyaron to keep the skin lubricated. Using the product inside a syringe makes this process much easier because I can hold the pen in one hand while applying more slip with the other.
Keeping enough slip on the skin allows the pen to glide smoothly throughout the procedure.

What Does Neck Microneedling Feel Like?
One of the questions I’m asked most often is whether microneedling hurts.
For me, the sensation feels very similar to a mild sunburn.
As treatment progresses, the skin gradually becomes:
- Warm
- Red
- Slightly tender
- Tight

For this particular session, I chose not to numb beforehand. I frequently skip numbing for my regular maintenance treatments because they’re very manageable. If I’m planning a deeper session on my face or another area, I will typically use topical numbing cream beforehand.
Everyone’s pain tolerance is different, but for me, neck microneedling has become something I’m very comfortable doing.
Supporting Recovery with LED Therapy
Immediately after finishing my treatment, I moved into my recovery routine.
First, I sprayed my neck with a Rooibos hydrating mist before using my LED neck mask.
I selected Near Infrared mode and completed a 6-minute session.
Many people include LED therapy as part of their post-microneedling routine because it complements collagen-focused skincare and helps support overall skin recovery.

My 24-Hour Results
One of the biggest reasons I continue microneedling regularly is how quickly my skin recovers.
Immediately after treatment, my neck looked very red and definitely felt like a sunburn.
By the following day:
- The redness had almost completely disappeared.
- The sunburn sensation was gone.
- My skin felt completely normal again.
Recovery from this session was fast, and I was able to comfortably return to my regular daily routine.

Why Consistency Matters
The neck doesn’t age overnight.
Likewise, improving skin quality doesn’t happen from one treatment.
The goal is to consistently encourage collagen production over time.
Regular treatments—combined with good skincare, sun protection, and healthy habits—can help maintain firmer, healthier-looking skin for years to come.
That’s why I continue to include neck microneedling as part of my long-term skincare routine.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can you microneedle your neck at home?
Many skincare enthusiasts choose to microneedle the neck at home. If you do, it’s important to educate yourself thoroughly, use sterile technique, and understand proper needle depths before beginning.
What needle depth did you use?
For this treatment, I used 1.0 mm at Speed Level 1 on the Dr. Pen M9.

How long does the redness last?
My redness improved dramatically within 24 hours and the sunburn sensation had completely resolved.
Can microneedling help crepey neck skin?
Microneedling is commonly used to stimulate collagen production, which may help improve the appearance of crepey skin and fine lines over time when performed consistently.
Why did you use Hyaron?
I like using Hyaron because it provides excellent glide during treatment while helping keep the skin hydrated.
Why do you use LED after microneedling?
I frequently incorporate LED therapy into my post-treatment routine because it complements collagen-focused skincare and supports my overall recovery routine.
Final Thoughts
The neck deserves just as much attention as the face.
Because it’s one of the first places to show aging, making collagen-building treatments part of your long-term routine can make a meaningful difference in maintaining healthy-looking skin.
For this treatment, I used the Dr. Pen M9, an 18-pin cartridge, one syringe of Hyaron, a 1.0 mm depth, and finished with a short Near Infrared LED session.
